Bush vs. Kerry
October 14th, 2004

I don't follow politics much, generally. I have never voted in any election other than a presidential one... and so far, (due to my age) I have only voted in one of those. But like many other Americans, I have followed this election with great interest.

Let me just cut to the chase: I think Bush is a jackass. I hated the way he bullied himself into office, I hate the way he has screwed our economy, and I hate the way he has bullied foriegn nations. Bush is a man who believes he can do absolutely anything he wants, whenever he wants, simply because "We're the United States".

MeLisa and I have watched the presidential debates, including the one that happened last night. The best thing about the debates is reading the fact-checker articles the next day to see who lied the most. My favorite one from last night:

Kerry made two charges — that Bush had once said he was "not that concerned" about finding Osama bin Laden and that he had never met with the Congressional Black Caucus. He slightly misfired on one.

Bush said the bin Laden comment was "one of those exaggerations," but in a news conference on March 13, 2002, Bush said when asked about the search for the al Qaeda leader: "So I don't know where he is. You know, I just don't spend that much time on him, we haven't heard much from him. ... And I wouldn't necessarily say he's at the center of any command structure. And, again, I don't know where he is. I — I'll repeat what I said. I truly am not that concerned about him."

Bush did meet with the Congressional Black Caucus during his first two weeks in office — on Jan. 31, 2001 — but Kerry's overall charge was correct: Bush has repeatedly turned down requests to meet with the group since then. Caucus members have complained that not only has Bush refused to meet with them on specific issues, including his plans to attack Iraq, but also the White House often has not even responded to their letters. Bush dropped by a meeting that national security adviser Condoleezza Rice had with the caucus earlier this year.

I don't think Kerry is a saint, but he is saying the right things to make me happy. Kerry doesn't think religion has any place in a political office, despite his personal beliefs. He doesn't want to overturn a woman's right to an abortion. He wants to get the economy back on track, even if it means more taxes. Meanwhile... Bush lies, conveniently "forgets" facts, and dodges questions without remorse. Yeah, that's just the type of guy I want in control of our country.

Yet, despite Bush being an obvious moron, the polls remain tied. What the hell is wrong with you, America?!? If Bush manages to win this election, I am moving to Canada...
