New York, New Yoooooooork!
October 2nd, 2005

After the home stuff fell through, MeLisa and I decided we need a change of scenery. So, we bought a few train tickets and spent yesterday in New York.

We left Baltimore at 9:00, and arrived at Penn Station in NYC before noon. I didn't realize it until we got there, but Penn Station is located directly below Madison Square Garden (who knew?). From there, MeLisa and I headed south on 7th to a cool little bar called the Triple Crown. We had an awesome lunch there... MeLisa had grilled cheese and tomato, and I had a grilled ham and brie sandwich. Very yummy. We wanted to see Rockefeller Plaza while we were in the city, and got directions from the bartender on how to get there.

So, we headed out towards 5th st. Before we got there though, we took a little detour along Broadway where some kind of Korean parade was happening.

From there we made our way over to 5th, where MeLisa found a very cute bead store. How is it that we manage to find one of these in every city we visit?

After the bead store, we found a comicbook store (where I picked up Villians United #1-5) and also saw the Empire State Building:

A little more walking, and we finally made it to Rockefeller Plaza for some shopping...

And no trip to Rockefeller Plaza would be complete without a trip to the Nintendo World Store. Behold the bling bling Nintendo DS's:

From there, we headed further north and had some authentic New York cheesecake at Lindy's. After a little rest, we headed back down 7th towards Penn Station... stopping in Time Square along the way to see some sights. Here's a pic of MTV studios:

And that's about it... we were back on the train by 6:00 and headed home while reading the comics I picked up earlier.

All in all, a very fun day in the city. Did some shopping, ate some great food and saw a bunch of the tourist traps. Definitely a much needed break from all the stuff that has been going on lately.
