Segs in the City Updated: June 25th, 2007 (RSS) MeLisa bought me an Excitations giftcard for our anniversary this year, and I decided to use it for a tour of Baltimore City.... on Segways. I had seen people riding around on Segways, but had never actually been on one myself, and I really wanted to try one out. And, yesterday we did. We showed up at the Segs in the City place a little early and had to wait for the tour guide to show, but once he did, we got a quick little class on how the Segway works and the basic safety stuff, and then we were off... It took a few minutes to get comfortable with how to move on the Segway... moving forward and backward is done purely by shifting your weight forward or backward. Sounds easy, but it takes a little while to get used to. After the first few minutes though, we were all zipping around pretty quickly... and those little scooters kind of haul ass. There were 6 of us in total riding around through the city and the reactions were all over the place. We passed by a ton of people who were like "wow... that's a Segway" or people who took pictures of us and whatever. There were also a bunch of people who yelled "Nerds!!" and whatever else at us as we drove by. For better or worse, the thing definitely draws attention. MeLisa and I had a great time, and saw parts of the city we had never seen before. I don't think I would drop $5k for a Segway of my own, but it was a fun way to get around the city for an afternoon.
