Batman Begins
June 14th, 2005
Last night I got to see an advance screening of Batman Begins. The company MeLisa works for was giving out tickets to the screener, and she was nice enough to pass hers along to me.
So, I will preface my short review of the movie by saying that I am a pretty big fan of Batman... I have read a bunch of the graphic novels and enjoyed the two movies Tim Burton directed. Also, I went into this movie expecting it to be pretty bad. I had heard some rumors about how the story in Batman Begins unfolds, and I didn't like what I was hearing. My fears were only worsened by the writer, David Goyer, who has written some less than stellar scripts in his time... such as The Crow: City of Angels and just recently Blade Trinity.
But, thankfully, all of my fears were for nothing. Batman Begins is an excellent movie. Truly, this is the Batman movie I had always been hoping for... devoid of the goofyness of the last few movies, this Batman's world is filled with a dark realism that fits the character so well. Also, the acting (especially of Christian Bale and Michael Caine) was outstanding. The only complaint I have is that some of the fighting gets a little blurry at times and it's difficult to see what is happening during those brief scenes; but this might have been done for effect. This is only a minor gripe though, and doesn't really detract from this otherwise fantastic film.
If you are a fan of action films or the comic-book genre, you should absolutely see this movie. If you are a fan of Batman, you should already be waiting in line, right now. It's really that good.
