Virtual Boy
March 1st, 2005
I love video games.... no secret there. But I have never really been a collector of video game stuff. Generally, I own a system until I get bored with it (or it breaks), then I sell it off for the next cool thing to come along.
There is one system I have always kind of regretted selling though. I owned a Virtual Boy when it originally came out. It was a pretty cool system, and definitely unlike anything else available at the time (or since), and after it failed miserably in the market, you could pick one up for almost nothing. But, like always, I sold it after a short while to finance the next system I wanted to own.
However, now... 10 years later, I own one again!
Thanks to Ebay, I am now the proud owner of a Virtual Boy system and 3 games: Mario's Tennis, Galactic Pinball and Wario Land.
The 3D effect is still pretty impressive, actually, and it's fairly fun to play. But I can definitely understand why it never really caught on.... it's really uncomfortable to sit hunched over at this thing for more than ten minutes. I must be getting old.
Still... for the nostalgia alone, it's worth owning. And it will look awesome sitting on a shelf somewhere.
